Visit of Siemens Mobility Austria GmbH

In May 2024 we visited the production site of Siemens Mobility Austria GmbH.

On 14 May 2024 we visited the production site of Siemens Mobility Austria GmbH in the 11th District of Vienna. We were received by CEO Tanja Kienegger, who gave us an overview on the activities of the company. Siemens Mobility enables its customers worldwide to realize sustainable mobility solutions. As a leading technology company, Siemens Mobility combines the real and digital worlds like no other in rail. In an open ecosystem, Siemens Mobility brings together rolling stock, rail infrastructure, rail services, and software to provide sustainable, comfortable, and cost-effective rail traffic today. Together with it's customers and partners, Siemens Mobility moves people and goods seamlessly and transforms mobility for everyone. Siemens Mobility has been a leader for seamless, sustainable, reliable and secure transport solutions for more than 160 years.

We were offered a visit to the huge production site. Mr. Gerald Buchsbaum and colleagues of the company showed us the hall where the production of Metros for Vienna, Munich and the Piccadilly Line in London are currently undertaken. Other halls are for the production of different railway stock, ULF trams as well as maintenance. On the production area of 76.000 m2 up to 500 wagons are produced per year. The processes include carbody integration, surface treatment, electrical pre-assembly, a final assembly centre, testing and commissioning. Just in time logistics are provided. All Railjets are produced by Siemens Mobility and there are also productions of Metro units for overseas cities such as Bangkok or Riad being carried out.
